Board of Directors
Duties
The directors perform the duties usually connected with such offices as well as other duties as needed. The descriptions outlined below are guidelines, and specific duties are often shared or performed by directors/members to whom that duty is not assigned.
President, vice president, treasurer and secretary are elected positions. The election procedure can be found on our website under By-Laws. Other positions listed here are volunteer and/or director-appointed.
President
- Chair meetings.
- Represent club in dealings with other organizations.
- Coordinate activities of other officers and committees.
Vice President
- Act in absence of the president.
- Greet visitors, having them sign the visitor's log
and introduce them to those present at the meeting.
- Accept new members, collect dues passing dues on
to the Treasurer.
- Maintain the roster of members and records associated
with the garden parcels.
- Maintain OPCG waiting list.
- Assign parcels to new and existing gardeners.
Treasurer
- Gather funds received from various activities and
deposit them in the bank.
- Write checks to pay bills, getting a second signature
on all checks before presenting to the appropriate recipient.
- Maintain financial records for OPCG.
- Prepare financial reports required by the Community
Foundation for Oak Park.
Secretary
- Take minutes at all meetings, thereby maintaining
a record of all business of OPCG.
- Prepare correspondence in response to activities
associated with OPCG.
- Check OPCG P.O. box for mail and give to the appropriate
board member.
- Stamp any checks to OPCG with a "For Deposit Only"
stamp and give checks to treasurer.

Garden Manager
- Enforce garden rules.
- Serve notice of rule infractions to violators, after
Board of Directors has a walkthrough to review violations.
- Monitor inventory and physical condition of tools
and equipment owned by OPCG.
- Attain board approval for purchase of OPCG tools
and/or parts, and make replacements and/or repairs as needed.
- Track attendance for work days and community service
hours.
Events Coordinator
- Arrange for monthly speakers for general meetings
and submit the date to The Acorn.
- Oversee fundraising projects.
- Oversee garden members' activities (pot lucks)
- Arrange for field trips for general members.
Librarian
- Maintain books, pamphlets and printed information
for the organization.
- Make sure bookplates are on inside cover of each
book and are labeled with OPCG.
- Keep updated log on items that are checked out.
- Contact members who have checked out books for longer
than one month.
- Bring an assortment of books to the monthly general
monthly meetings.
- Keep an updated list of the library inventory available
to OPCG members.
Historian
- Collect, organize and maintain copies of publicity, articles, photos and other printed and digital matter pertaining to OPCG.
Publicity Manager
- Write and submit periodic press releases promoting events and special speakers to the local newspapers, The Acorn and The Ventura County Star. Include digital copies of fliers, when available.
- Write and submit announcements of OPCG General Meetings for the Calendar section of The Acorn, and to the Oak Park Update website.
- Print and distribute copies of any special event fliers, when available, to local businesses and Simi Valley Recreation and Parks Community Center.
